Taipei Specific Instructions for Temporary Resident Visas
Effective September 01, 2007 there are significant changes to the Temporary Resident Application Form. Please read the following sections and follow the instructions carefully to avoid having your application rejected by our office:

1.Temporary Resident Visa Requirements
The following documents are required to apply for a Temporary Resident visa to Canada :
- Completed Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257)
To print this form you need Acrobat Reader 4.0 or above.
- A valid passport or travel document. There must be at least one remaining blank visa page in your passport and the passport should be valid for at least for six months.
- Two recent photographs. For Visa Application Photograph specifications, please clickhere
- Processing Fee - Payment of the processing fee is required before submitting your application to us. Please click here for details.
- Proof of funds that you are able to support yourself and your family members during your stay and to enable you to leave Canada, such as photocopies of bank statements, pay stubs, proof of employment or other form of proof.
- One photocopy of the passport page containing your biographical information (name, date of birth, passport number etc.)
- Applicants who are between ages of 18 and 49 inclusive, will need to submit their Taiwan Certificate of Entry and Exit Dates (past five years) together with the visa application, if EITHER one of the following criteria applies:
a) Passport was issued within the past 3 months from the date of the visa application or
b) Applicant has previously lost passport(s).
2.How to Complete the Temporary Resident Visa application form
Most of the temporary resident Visa application form is self-explanatory. Please complete all the sections carefully. Your application will be returned to you or may be refused if it is not completed or if all the necessary documents have not been submitted. If you need more space, please attach a separate piece of paper and indicate the number of the question that you are answering.
- The application form must be completed fully and accurately in either English or French. Any application form that is incomplete, inaccurate or not completed in either English or French will be rejected.
- Question 2: Please provide complete details for you and your spouse and children, if applicable. Provide the information requested for your spouse and children even if they will not be accompanying you to Canada. Married and common-law applicants can together submit one TRV application form. Applicants under the age of 18 can be included under their parent's TRV application form. Please note that if your child is more than 18 years old and will accompany you to Canada, he or she must complete a separate application form.
- Question 9: Please provide the telephone number of your current employer.
- Travel agent stamp: If you are using a travel agent, the agent should stamp the application form on the second page in the lower left hand corner.
- Question 14: The application form must be signed by the applicant. If a travel agency completes the form on your behalf, please ensure that the information is accurate and that you have signed it yourself.
- Photos: Please glue your photos to the bottom of page two or three of the application form.
3.How to Apply for the Temporary Resident Visa:
Once you have completed the application for a temporary resident visa, it is very important to follow the three steps in the application process:

Effective Monday November 05 2007 until Friday March 28 2008, the VISA section of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei will change to Winter hours. Please note the following changes:
You may submit applications : Monday to Thursday 08:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Effective Tuesday April 01, 2008, submit visa application:
From 08:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m., Monday to Friday
THIRD: Collect Visa + Passport
From 14:00 p.m.-16:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday next working day after submission of application. On Friday from 08:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. (for applications submitted on Thursday).
If additional documents or a personal interview are required, you will be notified at the time of collection.

Please note the following:
- If you are requesting a multiple entry visa (maximum validity for 5 years or one month prior to the expiry date of your passport, whichever is sooner), please pay the appropriate processing fee for a multiple entry visa. Otherwise a single entry visa will be issued, and this is normally valid for a maximum of six months.
- If the purpose of your intended visit to Canada is for business, or to perform a concert, to repair equipment, to participate in an exchange program, to conduct research, or as part of a media crew, please include the invitation letter from the Canadian company or institution that will be sponsoring your visit and which should also describe the purpose of your visit. You may also require a work permit.
4.Applicants Under 18 Years of Age
Additional documents are required for applicants who are under 18 years of age and traveling to Canada, as they are considered minors under Canadian law.
a) Traveling With Parents
If a minor child is traveling with one or both parents, please include the child's name on the parent's Application for Temporary Resident Visa.
If one or both parents have already obtained a Temporary Resident Visa, please include the following documents with the completed Temporary Resident Visa for the minor child:
- Photocopy of the passport page that contains the parent's photograph and Temporary Resident Visa;
- Proof of relationship to the parent, such as a photocopy of the Household Certificate ( Hu Ji Teng Beng) or a photocopy of the minor child's identity card.
- An English or French version of the written consent from the non-traveling parent if the minor child is traveling to Canada with one parent only.This document should be specific to each trip and should include contact information for the parent(s) or guardian. If the child is the subject of a custody order, proof of custody and the other parent’s consent must also be provided. Click here to view a sample consent letter. This document should also be available for presentation to immigration officials at the port of entry in Canada
b) Traveling With Another Adult (not a parent)
If a minor child is traveling to Canada with an adult who is not their parent, please include the following with the completed Application for Temporary Resident Visa to Canada Form:
- Written consent from both parents. The written consent must include the following:
the name of the person who will accompany the minor child to Canada, permission for that person to act in place of the minor child's parent in case of an emergency, the signature of both parents. Click here to view a sample consent letter. This document should also be available for presentation to immigration officials at the port of entry in Canada.
- Proof of relationship of the minor child to the parents, such as a photocopy of the Household Certificate ( Hu Ji Teng Beng) or a photocopy of the minor child's identity card.
- Photocopies of the biographical page of the passports of both parents
- A photocopy of the pages of the passport showing the photograph and Canadian Visa of the adult who will accompany the minor child.
c) Minor Traveling Unaccompanied To Canada
If a minor child is traveling to Canada unaccompanied, please include:
- A written and signed statement by the child's parents appointing a Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident as the minor child's custodian in Canada.
- Proof of relationship of the parents to the child, such as a photocopy of your Household Certificate (Hu Ji Teng Beng) or a photocopy of the minor child's identity card.
- A statement from the custodian, which includes the following:
- that he or she is an adult;
- his or her address and telephone number in Canada;
- that he or she will act in place of the child's parents in case of an emergency; and
- the signature of the custodian

Please note: An English or French version of the statement of the minor's parents and of the custodian should be available for examination by immigration officials at the Canadian port of entry.
5.Transit Visa
You require a Transit Visa if you are on a flight, or other form of transportation, which transits Canada on the way to another destination and the duration of your stay in Canada does not exceed 48 hours. The Canadian Transit Visa is issued free of charge, and is valid for a stay of 48 hours only.
To apply for a Canadian Transit Visa, please submit the following documents:
- Completed Application for a Temporary Resident Visa Made Outside of Canada (IMM5257) To print this form you need Acrobat Reader 4.0 or above
- A valid passport or travel document. There must be at least one remaining blank visa page in your passport and the passport should be valid for at least for six months.

- Copy of visa to the third country
- The original and a photocopy of your ticket with confirmed reservations
- One photocopy of the passport page containing your biographical information (name, date of birth, passport number etc.)
- Applicants who are between ages of 18 and 49 inclusive, will need to submit their Taiwan Certificate of Entry and Exit Dates (past five years) together with the visa application, if EITHER one of the following criteria applies:
- Passport was issued within the past 3 months from the date of the visa application or
- Applicant has previously lost passport(s).
- Applicants Under 18 Years of Age
