Applicants Under 18 Years of Age
Additional documents are required for applicants who are under 18 years of age and traveling to Canada, as they are considered minors under Canadian law.
a) Traveling With Parents
If a minor child is traveling with one or both parents, please include the child's name on the parent's Application for Temporary Resident Visa.
If one or both parents have already obtained a Temporary Resident Visa, please include the following documents with the completed Temporary Resident Visa for the minor child:
- Photocopy of the passport page that contains the parent's photograph and Temporary Resident Visa;
- Proof of relationship to the parent, such as a photocopy of the Household Certificate ( Hu Ji Teng Beng) or a photocopy of the minor child's identity card.
- An English or French version of the written consent from the non-traveling parent if the minor child is traveling to Canada with one parent only.This document should be specific to each trip and should include contact information for the parent(s) or guardian. If the child is the subject of a custody order, proof of custody and the other parent’s consent must also be provided. Click here to view a sample consent letter. b) Traveling With Another Adult (not a parent)
If a minor child is traveling to Canada with an adult who is not their parent, please include the following with the completed Application for Temporary Resident Visa to Canada Form:
- Written consent from both parents. The written consent must include the following:
the name of the person who will accompany the minor child to Canada, permission for that person to act in place of the minor child's parent in case of an emergency, the signature of both parents. Click here to view a sample consent letter. This document should also be available for presentation to immigration officials at the port of entry in Canada.
- Proof of relationship of the minor child to the parents, such as a photocopy of the Household Certificate ( Hu Ji Teng Beng) or a photocopy of the minor child's identity card.
- Photocopies of the biographical page of the passports of both parents.
- A photocopy of the pages of the passport showing the photograph and Canadian Visa of the adult who will accompany the minor child.
c) Minor Traveling Unaccompanied To Canada
If a minor child is traveling to Canada unaccompanied, please include:
- A written and signed statement by the child's parents appointing a Canadian citizen or Canadian permanent resident as the minor child's custodian in Canada.
- Proof of relationship of the parents to the child, such as a photocopy of Household Certificate (Hu Ji Teng Beng) or a photocopy of the minor child's identity card.
- A statement from the custodian, which includes the following:
- that he or she is an adult;
- his or her address and telephone number in Canada;
- that he or she will act in place of the child's parents in case of an emergency; and
- the signature of the custodian
