Canadian Trade Office opens month-long Mackay Exhibition

Taipei – The Canadian Trade Office in Taipei (CTOT) is pleased to announce the opening of the ``Dr. Mackay: An Extraordinary Canadian in Taiwan” Exhibition from December 15th 2014 to January 16th 2015, held in CTOT’s Mackay room. This exhibition will display photographs, books, and videos that illustrate Dr. Mackay’s dedication to and passion for the people of Taiwan.

As a Canadian also surnamed Mackay, Ms. Kathleen Mackay, Executive Director of CTOT is proud to introduce this month-long exhibition that examines Dr. Mackay’s role in the development of modern Taiwan. She notes that Dr. Mackay’s contributions to Taiwan’s development in the late 19th century set a high standard which all Canadians – along with others who love Taiwan – should continually strive to meet.

“Dr. Mackay lives on in the memories of Taiwanese today because of his significant and wide-ranging contributions to Taiwanese society, which continue to have cultural relevance and far-reaching impact on a diverse set of sectors. Dr. Mackay was instrumental in the development of Taiwan’s health care, education, and religious development. He is an inextricable part of Taiwan’s history, and the originator of Taiwan and Canada’s 150-year long friendship,” she added.

The Canadian Trade Office in Taipei and its supporting partners at Aletheia University, Mackay Hospital, the Mackay-Lin Hui Chen Foundation, Taiwan’s Public Television System, Tamkang High School, Presbyterian Church of Taiwan and the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines, invite you to learn more about the extraordinary life of Taiwan’s most famous Canadian, Dr. George Leslie Mackay.
