Canadian Trade Office in Taipei will officially participate in 2016 Taipei Pride Parade

Joint Press Release

The 2016 Taipei Pride Parade, the largest of its kind in Asia, will take place on 29 October.  The representative offices of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the UK and the European Union will officially participate in the event to promote equality, respect and inclusiveness of the LGBTI community around the world. The foreign offices will march together in Team Purple.

It is the common position of the participating offices that all human beings are equal in dignity and all are entitled to enjoy their fundamental human rights. The human rights of all individuals should be respected irrespective of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Pride Parade is therefore an excellent opportunity to raise this awareness and to ensure that respect and tolerance prevail over prejudice and discrimination.

Taiwan is at the forefront in Asia on LGBTI rights. The participating offices hope that Taiwan continues to be the shining example for others to follow.

During the parade, some of the participating offices will be giving away rainbow versions of their flags to participants. Fellow marchers are encouraged to seek out the foreign offices group in Team Purple to get one of these flags!
