Canada Offers Condolences Following Earthquake in Taiwan

February 7, 2016 - Taipei, Taiwan - Global Affairs Canada

The Canadian Trade Office in Taipei extends its sympathies to the families affected by the earthquake that occurred on Feburary 6, 2016 in southern Taiwan.

It is particularly tragic that this disaster should occur at a time when Taiwanese are traveling home and gathering with their families to celebrate the lunar New Year.

We hope for a swift and smooth rescue effort and that those still missing will soon be reunited with their families. The people of Tainan remain in our thoughts.

Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance should call the Trade Office of Canada in Taipei, Taiwan at 886 (2) 8723-3000 and follow the instructions. You may also call the Emergency Watch and Response Centre in Ottawa toll-free at 00-800-2326-6831 or +1 613 996 8885 (collect calls are accepted where available).
