Summary of duties: 

Under the general supervision of the Director (Trade & Investment), the Senior Commercial Assistant facilitates the effective and efficient operations of CTOT’s Trade Program in Taiwan. The Senior Commercial Assistant is responsible for maintaining the Trade Program’s budgets, as well as providing administrative, logistical and travel arrangement support for the Director (Trade & Investment) and the Senior Investment Officer. The Senior Commercial Assistant also provides support and guidance for three Trade Commissioner Assistants. The Senior Commercial Assistant must be able to multi-task, prioritize, and work well under pressure. The Senior Commercial Assistant needs to exercise a considerable level of initiative and discretion, while handling sensitive and often urgent materials and information. 

Position opens to:

  • Individuals residing in Taiwan who are eligible to work in Taiwan, who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, and whose applications are received by the closing date.
  • Note: relocation expenses will not be paid in any circumstance.

Essential requirements:

Candidates must demonstrate clearly in their application how they meet the education and experience requirements listed below:

     a.     Education: Bachelor’s degree in commerce, business administration, economics or international trade, or an acceptable combination of completion of secondary education and work related training in an area similar to the duties of the position.

     b.     Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in an office environment;
  • Experience working in a client-service oriented office environment, including the delivery of courteous and effective in-person service;
  • Experience in an administrative functions (e.g. meeting coordination, correspondence, transportation coordination, financial management and ability to execute above noted responsibilities);
  • Experience in budget management;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point) and other web-based applications in an office environment;


Language requirement:

Fluency in English and Mandarin, both written and spoken.

Rated requirements:

a.     Knowledge:

  • PC skills - Microsoft Outlook, Explorer (internet) Word, Excel, PowerPoint;
  • Social networking platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube;
  • Budget maintenance/management;


b.     Abilities:

  • Ability to take direction and follow instructions;
  • Ability to work effectively in a high pressure environment;
  • Ability to multitask and juggle several tasks at once and be able to prioritize as required;
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in writing;
  • Ability to work independently as well as work in groups;


c.      Personal suitability:

  • Displays initiative, professional integrity and sound judgement;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Adaptability and flexibility;
  • Strong focus on client service;

Asset requirements:

Preference may be given to candidates who have the following asset qualifications:

  • Fluency (written/spoken) in French and Taiwanese;
  • Experience in Event planning and organization;
  • Knowledge of Taiwan’s governmental and business environment;
  • Knowledge of Canadian Government’s hospitality, travel policies and regulations


Operational requirements:

  • Must be able to work overtime on short notice on occasion;
  • Must be available for occasional duties outside normal working hours (i.e., evenings and weekends); and
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.

Condition of employment (must be met):


  • Eligibility for a Government of Canada Reliability Status;
  • Must have a valid work authorization covering the employment period;
  • Must be admissible for travel to Canada.
