Visas and Immigration

Important Notice

Starting March 15, 2016, visa-exempt foreign nationals who fly to or transit through Canada are expected to have an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Exceptions include U.S. citizens and travellers with a valid Canadian visa.

However, from March 15, 2016 until fall 2016, travellers who do not have an eTA can board their flight, as long as they have appropriate travel documents, such as a valid passport. During this time, border services officers can let travellers arriving without an eTA into the country, as long as they meet the other requirements to enter Canada. Find answers to your questions about the leniency period.

Note that Canadian citizens, including dual citizens, and Canadian permanent residents are not eligible to apply for an eTA.

The Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong is responsible for processing visa applications for citizens and residents of Taiwan.

Citizens of Taiwan require a visa to enter Canada as a visitor. However, please note that citizens of Taiwan holding the ordinary passport issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Taiwan that includes their personal identification number are visa exempt.  If you are a citizen of another country, check the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) website to see if you require a visa to enter Canada.

If you are a citizen of Taiwan, or if you are legally residing in Taiwan, visit the official website of the Visa Section of the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong for information about visa and immigration services and to download application forms.

If you wish to enquire about the status of your application, you should contact the Visa Section of the Consulate General of Canada in Hong Kong where all applications are processed and finalized.
